The Go-Giver (Expanded Edition)

By Bob Burg, John David Mann

The Go-Giver (Expanded Edition) by Bob Burg and John David Mann is the story of a real estate agent struggling to do better until he discovers five selling philosophies that change his business forever. The book is written in a clean, casual style with anecdotes from everyday life. Every agent can relate to the stories and struggles in the book, but they’ll also find practical strategies for connecting with clients and growing a successful business.

Burg and Mann use each chapter to focus on a different element of their five fundamental principles of success. The chapter that resonated most with me was Chapter 3, “The Law of Influence.” In that chapter, the authors introduce Gabe, a seemingly lazy guy at the office whom the author befriends. This “giver” mindset helps the author connect with Gabe, turning a stranger into a “personal ambassador” who helps him achieve his goals.

I like this book because it gives agents the right mindset for dealing with the challenges of being a Realtor, but it’s missing practical guidance on keeping detailed notes, following up, and marketing to the people we make connections with. That’s where I think Real Estate CRM Secrets picks up — its chapter on Stand Out When Reaching Out shows agents how to implement many of the book’s philosophies and see their businesses grow. Its guidance on bulk mailings, a pre-made letter library, and follow-up tasks can help put those laws into practice.
